Our goal is to help those who want to change their consumerism habits to consume less in general, buy small & local to strengthen our communities by investing in them financially, and to utilize public spaces to show their value and perhaps meet new people or learn something new.
Sustainability & Community – Mapped

What’s on the map?
1. Retail
Our hope is to find local shops that are welcoming, intentional, and often beautifully curated. These businesses value things such as:
- Natural materials
- Craftsmanship
- Ethical production
- Transparency
- Community
- Labor
We also want to highlight these shops that provide local alternatives to big box chains
- Niche stores
- General Stores
- Refill shops
2. Secondhand
Buying secondhand takes time and resourcefulness, but it can be rewarding on multiple levels. Many things used to be made at a higher quality, so you can be rewarded by finding these things at a lower price point as well. We list shops that sell these items:
- Children’s items
- Clothing & Accessories
- Furniture & Décor
- Art supplies
- Books
- Building supplies
3. Public Spaces
These are the “third spaces” where people of all backgrounds are welcome
Examples are:
- Parks
- Libraries
- Mixed-use Buildings
- Community centers & gardens
4. Events
Any event that promotes local sourcing, learning handicrafts, trading goods
Examples are:
- Markets
- Swaps
- Vintage / Antique fairs
